Junior League of Halifax

Kids in the Kitchen

The goal of Junior League’s Kids in the Kitchen initiative is to empower children and youth to make healthy lifestyle choices and help reverse the growth of childhood obesity and its associated health issues. By working with community partners, the Junior League of Halifax's Kids in the Kitchen program is helping to increase knowledge and confidence of healthy food preparation and is establishing sustainable, affordable and accessible opportunities to support healthy eating among families in the Halifax Regional Municipality.

In 2011-2012, Junior League of Halifax’s Kids in the Kitchen program partnered with the Jollimore Girl Guides, St. Paul’s Church Foodbank, Supportive Housing for Young Mothers, COMPASS Centre for Collaborate Child and Family Treatment at the IWK children’s hospital, and Pathways to Education of Spryfield. The Junior League of Halifax plans to continue their ongoing Kids in the Kitchen programming with these organizations in the upcoming year and would also like to expand to partner with the Boys and Girls Club in Spryfield to create an urban garden to complement Kids in the Kitchen programming.
